Delving Into the Red Kimono

One of      One of my latest sushi experiences in Cebu was at Red Kimono and it has quickly become my recent favorite Japanese restaurant. Mainly because,  I think they do a pretty good job with their sushi. The interior is in a sassy red-and-black color scheme and the chairs are quite interesting, almost European in design. The waiters and manager are reasonably attentive,  helpful and service-minded. If you use your Senior Citizens card, though, you might have to allot a certain number of minutes for them to work out the figures while paying the bill but those are certainly minor details.

Their sushi is creative and tasty at the same time. If you try it out, consider their Red Scorpion roll or Crunchy maki. It can be hard to find sushi that is as appetizing as it looks and I think Red Kimono hits the nail on the head with their variety in sushi as they not only have the sushi bar staples but also masterpieces. They also have a menu of other Japanese favorites like tempura, chicken teriyaki and tofu steak and most of it is pretty good as well. And their cocktails are deelish! Try their Mango Daiquiri! Cocktails are slightly pricey compared to some of the smaller bars and establishments in town but, as some readers already know, I am quite particular about cocktails being concocted the right way so I dont mind paying extra for quality. After all, the joy of money saved doesnt last as long as the joy of a perfect cocktail experience. One of my European friends came over to Cebu for a first-time visit and had his first in-city meal at Red Kimono. He loved it so much that he insisted on eating there on his last evening in town as well so that he would leave Cebu on a great culinary note.

As with all restaurants that arent in the Michelin category, there are always some aspects of Red Kimono that can be improved, like their Green Tea Halo-halo,  but I think that the experience is worth the money you spend and most of all, you dont come away with a feeling of paying too much for too little. I am definitely coming back and I can only hope that they maintain their standard throughout the coming years. And maybe theyll even add more creative sushi to the menu. Perhaps we can hope for something like Devils Eye Maki?
