We were invited to dine in
HUKAD by our family friend Uncle Jun and Tita Lina last night. They're going
out of the country for the holy week, and decided to stop over
Hukad is always jam-packed
with customers so we have to arrive early.
The funny part is, our host arrived earlier than us. We were stuck in traffic so we arrived a bit late. Good thing they were able to reserve seats
for everyone.
Hukad is a branch of Golden
Cowrie, a native Filipino restaurant that has been a landmark in the Cebuano
restaurant scene. They have branches in
Lahug (the first), SM Cebu, and
We ordered Crispy Pata
(p295.00), Bicol Express (p79.00), Pinakbet (p89.00) Tortang Talong (p79.00),
Calamares (p139.00), Sizzling Bangus Ala Pobre (p149.00) and Chicharon Bulaklak
(p129.00). It's a pig out night indeed!
Their Crispy Pata is ok, but
I feel that the Pata is over-fried. The
Sizzling Bangus Ala Pobre is a bit salty and was overcooked. The Bicol Express is still spicy and impressive
thou the serving was a bit small. I also
loved their Calamares, the squid is tender and fried to perfection. The Pinakbet is a usual delight The Chicharon
Bulaklak is good, but I've tasted better Chicharon Bulaklak. The most disappointing dish is the Tortang
Talong. It was overcooked in every
way. It was coated with bread crumbs
(this is the first time I saw Tortang Talong with bread crumbs) and it tasted
like bread crumbs!
I think what made the night
special is because we had fun. With Tito
Jun's funny antics, even if the food was not that good, we still had a
wonderful evening. I think Golden Cowrie
has lost its touch. The food is still
affordable, but affordability doesn't mean you have to loose quality. I would choose a restaurant with steeper
price and good food, rather than a restaurant with cheap price but pathetic
dishes. Hukad is located at the 2nd
level of The Terraces Ayala Center Cebu
I still say CHIKA-AN is
BETTER than GOLDEN COWRIE. (for my blog
on Chika-an, refer to this link http://www.yummy-cebu.com/blog_main.php?article=190&t=Chika-an%20sa%20Cebu...%20Better%20Than%20the%20Cowrie!&r=Chikaan

I can't help but agree to this blog. Me and my wife had lunch there a couple of Sundays ago. I ordered the pork sinigang which was literally all pork fat. I thought to myself, that piece of meat would have been better appreciated if made to chicharon.
